Just past the end of the runway to the west is the border to BLM public lands and GMU 62. There is thousands of acres of recreational land, many miles of Jeep trails, and single-track for dirt biking, mountain biking, or hiking. It is a quiet access point and not a public or busy trailhead. The airstrip itself is at an elevation of 6,200 feet and overlooks downtown Montrose. From the property, there are greats views of the Cimarron and San Juan Mountains. Downtown is less than a 10 minute drive, while Ridgeway and Ouray are within a 45 minute drive away.
